Couldn't agree more with the poster below, "Jade" such a good track. Especially the second part starting at 4:56 and dropping into such groovyness at 5:20. Definitely among the better SD tracks after 1996.
Anyone know if this comes with an artwork/company sleeve or not??
I think just black sleeve. mine copy is dated 11/13/97
One of my all time fav tracks in Jade, sleek and jazzy. A low key electric piano riff runs through the first half keeping the groove as the breaks clatter around it. Then about half way through the feel changes to a very similar groove as used by Krautrock band Can on songs like "Moonshake" and "One More Night", totally different song almost but so slyly done it works. The bass drops massive dubby bombs and the electric piano plays a repeated figure before a funkier piano part comes back over the now relentless beat. This is very much a late night chill out and dream track, very subtle and simple in construction but I could listen to it over and over. It runs for 9 minutes but is so trance inducing it never seems to drag...fuck knows how it would fit into a mix though...The other track Sculptures Hide is more frenzied in a traditional Source Direct style with spooky synths ebbing around the breaks. That special SD sense of dread is there and they out Photek Photek on this one. Huge thudding bass comes in making sure the jazziness never gets too arty and gets the body moving. Has a terrific heavy bridge as the beats fades and strange synth pads float in. The bass crashes back in and the whole thing charges on for another 5 minutes. Not as unusual as Jade but makes a nice change when you flip the record over.If you like techy, spooky DnB which does not forget the groove and keeps a warm drum sound then you have to get hold of this!Frank @ London School of Sound
